Jennie and Matthew started the business together in September 2018. This is what Jennie has to say about their journey so far:
I have always enjoyed making fudge as a treat for my family and friends but when I was on maternity leave in 2016/17 with my son, I started having cravings and began making it more often. Before long, I was experimenting with flavours and was making more than my friends and family could (healthily) eat.
My husband and I have always looked for a project that we could share together and so we thought we would take the opportunity to attend markets and have family days out with our son whilst selling our fudge. Our first market was at the Ashley & Friends day in Whiteman Park as our son loves the trains and we were going to attend anyway. The day was great fun and we met lots of lovely people.
Before long, we were attending several markets a month, fitting them in around our normal jobs and found that Christmas was a very popular period with lots of gifts being purchased for the sweet tooth in the family.
We have gone from making 6 different flavours to 14 and if it weren’t for the fact I would run out of fridge space, I’d be creating more! My favourite part of the market is when people can’t decide which flavour to buy because they like so many!
In September this year, we will be celebrating our first full year in business and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than to showcase our homemade English fudge at the Good Food and Wine Show. As a small, local, family run business, it means a great deal to us to share our passion with the people of Perth, especially others who share our love of good food!
